Comma-Delimited to native .PDB compiler?
#133

All:

Does anyonw know of a simple compiler/decompiler that will take a
comma-delimited data file and a metadata file describing database format
and compile them into a standard PalmOS-format .PDB file, and vice-versa?

Preferably for Linux, or source code available?

(I'd like to avoid writing one using p5-palm.pl if possible...)

par is very useful and comes with source, although it doesn't actually
do comma-delimited data conversion.

http://www.djw.org/product/palm/par/

If you search google for "csv2pdb", there are some utilities that
convert to some different Palm OS databases, but since a PDB is a very
loose format with no real structure, a generic converter is a bit
difficult.

I've had good results with 'PHP-PDB'.

YOU COULD USE A CONDUIT THAT CONVERTS A CSV TO A PDB. THAT'S WHAT I
DID AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY. ONE MONTH AGO I HAD A TECHNIQUE TO DO THE
SAME : IMPORT YOUR CSV DATAS INTO CODEWARRIOR CONSTRUCTOR, AND THEN
READ THEM AND CREATE THE PDB ON THE PALMOS FROM A PALMOS APP OF YOUR
OWN -> THATS A HACKING WAY BUT THAT COULD SAVE SOME PROJECTS !!!!
BUT THE BEST WAY FOR YOU IS TO PROGRAM A CONDUIT THAT READS THE CSV
FILE ON THE PC AND CREATE THE EQUIVALENT PDB ON THE PALMOS POWERED
PDA.

THAT'S WHY I USED A CONDUIT TO DO THAT.

NONE OF ALL THE TOOLS THAT I FOUND ON THE WEB DID NON HELP ME.
SO I WOULD SAY :

TO CONVERT CSV TO PDB / PDB TO CSV, USE ONE OF THE TWO TECHNIQUES :

1- USE A CONDUIT (VISUAL C++ 6.0.... sorry i know you are on linux...
but there should be a way to do it).

2- USE THE "PPCDEV@HOTMAIL.COM" HACKING WAY !!!!

Is there some particular reason that you feel a NEED TO SHOUT AT US?

Nobody is shouting at you...

Try <URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/palm-db-tools/ >. The build
on Unix has been broken for a while, so get the 3.1 version. It worked
just fine in converting data into pilot-db format <URL:
http://pilot-db.sourceforge.net > for me.
