WTB [SYD,AUS]: PalmIII cradle

I don't believe it....three days after I buy my near-new PalmIIIx the
cradle packs it in! The PCB-mounted microswitch under the HotSync
button has gone on holidays and is permanently "on". Have opened up
the unit and I don't like my chances of a repair job.

Isn't causing any probs AFAIK - everything appears to sync OK, still.
But if you start syncing the unit and walk away, it won't just finish,
power down and wait for you. Instead, it keeps syncing
ad-infinitum.... DOH!

Does anyone have a surplus cradle or HotSync cable that they no longer
require? Please email me with details and I would be happy to take it
off your hands. Prefer seller in Sydney, Oz.

Thanks

Gotchya! So it's just a manner of using an onscreen command to sync
rather than relying on the auto-detect which must actualy
(force/emulate) the same command (?) Brilliant. I think I could cope
with that in the interim.

Now....are you SURE of those pin numbers? :-) <runs off looking for
snips and soldering iron>

I prolly will get a new cradle - as soon as someone offers me one for
substantially less than AUD59.95 (RRP/MSRP here in Oz). Can't image
the shipping would be any more than USD7-8. How would that rack up
against the cost of a broken cradle over there?

Oh yeah...if anyone wants/needs a broken Cassiopeia E10 just holler. I
KILLED one of mine (put my knee through the screen - DOH!) and now
it's just sitting round looking for something to do. Unit still
functions etc, but all you can see is broken glass and leaky LCD!
Complete package with all manuals, cradle, original packaging etc. Was
going to cost AUD260.00 to have it fixed down here so I just shoved it
in the cupboard. Make an offer and it can probably be yours :-)

Cheers

If you open it up and just snip the lines going to the switch, the cradle
will act exactly like the Hotsync cable. The only thing the switch does
is short out two of the pins (2 and 8 I think) on the Palm, so that it gets
a "time to sync" message. You can still hotsync after the switch is out
by manually opening Hotsync on the Palm and doing a local sync.

If this doesn't appeal to you and you eventually get a new cradle, would
you be so kind as to send the old cradle to me? Assuming international
shipping (to the US) isn't too much, I'd be happy to pay it.
