: Hey, I thought you said "doing away with crap". The Mac UI makes me absolutely
: *buggy* in mere minutes. Things I hate:
: 1. Menus vanish when you release the mouse button. I prefer the Windoze
: approach, "click and stay". Naturally, this would also suck, if it weren't for
: the fact that both "click and stay" and "click and drag" methods are allowed.
I prefer the Mac/Ami method.
: 2. To eject a floppy (no eject button, keeeeripes), you have to drag it to the
: trash. EVERYONE I ever explained that too has looked at me like I plaintively
: and said "But won't that erase everything on the disk?". Also, chosing the
: more logical "Eject Disk" option in the Special menu results in an evil ghost
: disk from hell on your desktop.
I won't disagree on that point.
: 3. I close all of the windows related to a running app, and it remains
: running? Hello, when all the windows are closed, think maybe I MIGHT be done
: with it? If I wnated the damned thing around, I'd just MINIMIZE it, wouldn't I
: (not under Mac, I wouldn't...couldn't).
Of course you have to quit an app to keep it from running. That's just
logical.
: Also, I just don't like the way it looks. I don't like the typeface used on
: the title bars of the windows, I don't like the one, constantly morphing menu
: bar right at the top, I don't like it that the scroll bars just ghost when they
: aren't needed, instead of vanishing and freeing up window space, and I don't
: like the very limited use of colour (It's a GUI, so make it more customizable
: and pretty, for pity's sake).
I *hate* the scrolling bars of Mac and Windooze. The dragging bits are
always the same size, instead of keeping proportional to the contents of
the window, as on the Amiga.
: Okay, I'll stop now. The only UI I hate more than the Mac's is the nasty, lo
: res, 4 colour Amiga one. Looked like a CGA nightmare--but I suspect that
: nicer forms of it exist, and that I was just looking at primitive machines.
I suspect you've not seen any Amiga since Workbench 1.3, take a look at
Workbench 3.1, especially with Magic Workbench, it's marvellous.
