Yeah, now it is stable and useable.

Gee, an "official release" version had changed a lot since a "beta 
release" version. What a surprise.

Yes doom and xdoom are both on my linux CD, but they crash on my Pentium. 
The good news is that they are the only things that I have found that 
crash on this system.

Linux is a good operating system, but only one of many good operating
systems. Nothing really special about it except its history (philosophy)
and cost.
