I've read through a lot of this thread and noticed a lot of things that just are not true. First, let me start by saying I am a Mac user and programmer who also has experience in UNIX, DOS (Ugh), and Windoze. I must admit that UNIX has some uses that the Mac is not as good at. I also should say that Windoze feels clunky compared to my Mac (yes, I have used Windows 95) and also that I use the Mac because it is simply better for what I do. Myth #1 Copland will have preemptive multitasking. Apple has decided to phase preemptive multitasking accross 2 major versions of system software. This is to ensure compatability. You will have to wait until Gershwin for completely preemptive multitasking, but by then, all the programs will be writen to take advantage of it and will be instantly compatible. Myth #2 When Copland comes out, the 680x0 will be dead. Apple isn't (to my knowlege) making any new 680x0 based machines, but there will still be people using older machines with things like accelleraters. They won't get all the benefits of the PPC users, but the 680x0 machines will still be around and in great use. Myth #3 GUI is better than CLI (or vice versa) Each has its strengths and weaknesses. I have, in fact, written a language for my own personal use and that is based on a CLI. It's just better for programming in than a GUI. Myth #4 To go from one app to another in a Mac you have to click on its window. This just isn't true. You could do that, but what if you don't recognize the window or it is buried to far down, or even, what it the app doesn't have an open window? There is that little picture in the upper right corner of the screen with the menu bar that changes with each app you open. You can use that to quickly switch to another app. That's just a start. Anybody else want to finish it up?
