OK, I'll agree that Linux's low-end support is a plus. Linux would
probably run well on my old 386DX-20 with 8M RAM, 100M HD, and Diamond
Stealth accelerated SVGA. 

My newer systems are 486DX2-66 with 16M RAM and Pentium-133 with 32M RAM. 
These were the configurations I had in mind when I made my original
statement, which I still believe is true for contemporary medium- to
high-end systems.
