Actually I haven't tried Nisus... I've heard truely wonderful things about it,
though. Does it have a more powerful Front-End Processor? (This is the one
thing that I really like about Linux)

Yes. Actually, people who need these things just _made_ them... (Amazing, isn't
it?) There are a number of free bitmapped japanese fonts available on the internet
and these are what were used in Linux. The terminal program that I use can be
instantly switched from any of these font sets. (Therefore, if you are trying to
save screen space and are using a small font and a complex kanji comes up that you
can't read, you can just tell the program to switch to the "BIG" font.)

As for True Type Fonts, you have actually hit on one of the sore spots for the
Linux community. There is no True Type Font renderer for free under Linux and
X-Windows. There is also no Free True Type Font set with kanji available for
free on the internet. (Actually one was just announced under sci.lang.japan, but
it doesn't follow the correct order, and the kanjis are quite inconsistent in style)

I bought a commercial True-Type Font renderer, that I now use with my Windows3.1J
Kanji True Type Fonts for use under X-Windows... This however, came at a price of
about $200 for Windows3.1J, and $40 for the TTF Renderer--- ughh. Almost $300!
(But I guess we all have our achilles heals, and mine is Kanji-Fonts!)

I'd like to give Nisus a try sometime. Its good to see that the industry is
making Japanese support better and better these days!
