clue.  IBM has been writing operating systems since before Bill Gates
was out of diapers.

if IBM were to develop its own OS for PCs, i suspect it would be far
superior to anything MS might spit out.  IBM, for all its flaws, is
not stupid: they do pay attention to how things have been done in the
past, at least in part because they've already done it.
