P6: Problems even with 32-bit Apps

According to the current "Info World" , pp 12:

"In the wake of more extensive testing of the Intel Corp P6, it has
become clear that the processor does not deliver significant
performance improvement over the Pentium when running 32-bit
applications in Windows 95."

The article goes on to describe performance gains of only 15% when
using 32-bit apps on 133MHz pentium systems and 133 MHz P6 systems.
They further attribute much of the disappointing performance to the
fact that there is so much 16-bit code in Win95.

Under other OS's, the P6 should probably perform much better, and of
course, these results aren't conclusive, but its certainly indicative
of a serious problem for Microsoft. I don't think they could possibly
sell NT the way they've sold Win95, given the time frame.

It appears that the P6 could be in serious trouble (well, it won't be
as successful as the 486 or Pentium, which is to say that it will sell
well, but not necessarily continue to dominate the market).
