: of months, then there must be a compromise somewhere.
The 9500 has 6 PCI slots, 3 (4?) drive bays, expandable to 1 gigabyte of
RAM, and is the early-bird in the high-end desktop market that the P6
will be competing in. It's a seller's market for Apple and they are
milking it for all that they can get.
There's also the issue of shortage of faster 604 CPU's, as well as the
difference in R&D overhead between Power Computing and Apple. NOt to
mention the Mind-Share that Apple has. Look at the price of Power 100's:
$1699 sans monitor. Close-out sales on 7100/80's are still as much as
$1000 more. Same basic system, more software, 33% faster, $1000 less.
: : A game-developer/player's dream machine, fer shure.
: It wouldn't be my dream machine, until they get out a large
: amount of software support for it.
A 132Mhz 604 machine runs most 68K software faster than the fastest 68K
Mac ever shipped. It should run most non-Sound-Blaster Windows and DOS
software at a good speed, also.
: : Not bad for business use, either.
: I have to agree with you there. It's a great work machine.
We will see what the pricing actually is. I'm hoping that I'm correct.
