I'm talking about someone who's already familiar with one or two Mac applications. You can learn new ones quite easily. On the other hand, if I know how to use emacs, will vi be intuitive or will I have to spend time reading to get up to speed? Even if some of these programs are menu-driven, if I want to use keyboard shortcuts then I have a whole additional set of keys to learn. >>manual when I'm curious if the application has a certain capability that isn't >>obvious to me already. >Complex applications have plenty of capabilities which aren't obvious. >Otherwise, their manuals would consist of only a few pages. Like I said, if it isn't obvious that the feature exists, the I _will_ check the manual. I am not a power-user with _every_ application I own, so I don't _need_ to know about the detailed operation of every program. -Ericb@psu.edu
