The computers were regularly turned off. I really do not have trouble
telling if a computer is on or off. I mean they usually have a hard disk
spinning or a fan or a power light or something. Unless you are talking
about mini computers or mainframes where, the users are shielded from
the cpu(s). But unless there is a power outage or a scheduled maintenance
or a hardware failure they are always up.
:
: Now if some user (and _just_ user) has the same experience, without the

Computers, like most eletrical appliances or tools or whatever you want to
refer to a Personal Computer as, need to have the power switch turned on.
Now perhaps it is unfair to expect, people to understand that electrical
appliances need to have the power on.
:
: Well, what would _you_ say if all the cars you had seen so far did start
: once you hit the gas pedal, and your driving instructor had specifically
: told you not to mess with that thing behind the steering wheel, and suddenly
: you sit downin one and nothing happens?
:
: P.S.: Be careful when calling someone stupid --- how would you like to come
: to your doctor and being called stupid just because noone ever told you that
: eating marshmallows and shrimps together causes stomach aches?

I do not follow how these have merit, but to each their own.
