Buzz. The 286 _does_ have a MMU. Segmentation is out of style these
days (and was pretty out of style in _those_ days too) but it _can_ work.
The IBM PC AT in 1984 should have come with an OS that used the full
capabilities of the 286. If it had, MS-DOS (and subsequently Windoze)
might not have gotten so entrenched.
(Oh yeah, and the address space was 16M. Good enough for 1983, as long
as people write their programs to be portable enough so that they don't
get _tied_ _down_ to the 16M limit.)
