B E Verins (beverins@aol.com) spake thusly:
: >>If you're trying to compare MacOS PnP to Microsoft's, you _really_ don't
: have a clue. MacOS PnP _works_. Win3.1 doesn't even have it and Win95
: works some percentage (<< 100%) of the time.<<

: I'll agree that the Mac PnP is very functional, but... erm... why then
: does the ZIP drive require a Mac-Install Disk? For the SCSI version? The
: ZIP on my Amiga (obviously with no Amiga specific installer) plugged in
: and worked! Turn on the HD prep utility to prep the disks, and format 'em.
: That's it.

: What exactly does the Installer Disk install to a Mac? Is it necessary for
: operation?

It installs a driver and utilities. None of which are really necessary,
though the driver does support some nice write- and read-protect options.
What does your HD prep utility do? Does the Zip disk have to be in the
drive at boot-time for it to be mounted? Did you have to install anything
to get SCSI support on your system?
