You definitely have some strange ideas. Where did you get that one from? Most university computer stores carry a wide range of Macintosh models. From low-end Performas to PowerMac 6100's, 7100's, 7200's, 8500's, up to 9500/132's if the student wants to spend that much money. > The system comes with 12MB of RAM which is not enough for a > NEW SYSTEM. Well they can buy a different Macintosh system then, or a different configuration, or they can buy some more RAM to suit their liking. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a solution to that problem. > > >Did you just buy a 12MB system? I hope not. PowerMacs run okay with 8MB of RAM, using RAM Doubler from Connectix. >We, >SGE, got some 8MB 6100's and they are too slow to run WORD. 12MB -- >4MB more is peanuts. > This must be flame-bait. The majority of PC users only know how to start up their word processor and play a couple of games. Apologies to the millions of extremely capable PC users out there. > >Today I see Apple forcing students and entry level users into limited >lifespan systems. Most university students can buy top of the line Macs through educational channels. If they can't, then there's always the normal commercial market. How many brands and configurations of PC clones does your school sell? Most students who buy PC's don't buy them from their school because they are cheaper on the outside. >You have to interoperate with people and that means buying updated >software.
