Here you're definitely right, as my personal experience attests. I'm a
CS major in my sophomore year of college. I *hate* Microsoft and am currently
running OS/2 and Linux on my machine; both are nice but neither as nice as
NeXTStep, which our CS department runs on a few NeXTStations. My machine
*could* run NeXTStep; it's a DX4/100 with 24 MB of RAM. But after investing the
dough required to get said machine to that level, I am not pleased by the
prospect of paying several hundred dollars more for the OS academic bundle,
then several hundred bucks *more* on top of that for enough native apps to
justify having it. NeXTStep is definitely still too expensive, and its app base
is too small. A pity- it's a damn fine OS, possibly the best I've ever seen.
