I believe (but I don't actually have a Zip drive) that the Zip will work
with the standard SCSI driver (or one of the shareware drivers, like SCSI
Probe). Although lots of devices that require a special SCSI for the Mac
do so because the SCSI implementation doesn't follow the specs exactly (I
believe there are several PC SCSI "standards").
