Right now, while it's in pre-beta, we encourage people who are
considering the immediate purchase of Executor to pick up our demo
(ftp://ftp.ardi.com/pub/executor-faq.ascii tells you where you can get
it, as does http://www.ardi.com) and try it for yourself, since new
experimental pre-beta versions are released fairly frequently. For
others we suggest waiting until 2.0 is at least in beta (hopefully at
the end of October) or until 2.0 is shipping (mid December).

The most recent versions of the Microsoft products (Word 6, Excel 5,
PowerPoint 4) do not run under Executor because they need
multi-tasking in order to support OLE. Since you do not have the
option of running these programs without OLE enabled, you just can't
run them. We use Word 5 and Excel 4 in house and know of some people
using PowerPoint 3 under Executor, but we don't have PP3 for our own
testing, so it's hard for us to evaluate how well it works.

We used Word 5 under Executor to write a 100 page manual. Executor
did crash twice while running Word 5 under Executor as we wrote the
manual, *but* when we took the manual to a graphics shop and loaded it
on their machine and went to make changes, there were a few times that
their Mac died and this was in the course of a couple of hours. My
conclusion was that the Mac version of Word just didn't work
particularly well on large files with relatively limited memory (the
Mac at the printshop had less memory available than the machines we
were using Executor under).

Photoshop is only now just starting to limp. We will be doing
extensive bug fixing aimed at getting Photoshop 3 to run well,
starting the 8th of October.

In general, most programs either die fairly early on (because we don't
support some feature that they need) or work correctly the entire time
you use them. We've had reports that the game "Civlization" dies at
random times, but we fixed some bugs that it may have been running
into and apparently there is a newer version of Civilization that
seems to run fairly well.

More information is available in the FAQ mentioned above.

Thanks for your interest.
