I see no problem with putting forth a tentative proposal for the
structure of a site. That doesn't mean we can't start with comp.sys.be
or comp.sys.be.advocacy and go from there. Discussing it now PRIOR to
setting up the newsgroups gives the opportunity for feedback and
discussion so that when the subgroups *are* set up, they will be useful
the first time around. I've seen a lot of errors and ommissions in other
sites due to lack of foresight and planning.

Right now I see 1/3 of the Amiga postings, 2/3 of the NeXT postings and
most of the PowerPC postings centered around the BeBox. This is
indication enough that it needs a separate site, so it doesn't further
and unduly interfere with the other newsgroups.

Your opinion is welcome, however, although my personal feeling is that
it's easier to make the distinctions early on than having to wade through
a dozen topics all lumped into advocacy.

Since my original post, I've considered that networking and
telecommunications are not as separate as they used to be and could be
collapsed into one group. The amended proposal is as follows:

0 - advocacy
1 - announcements & reviews
2 - applications
3 - emulations
4 - graphics
5 - hardware
6 - marketplace
7 - marketing & distribution
8 - miscellaneous
9 - multimedia
10 - networking & telecom
11 - programmer
12 - sound
13 - video

I've had a lot of email showing interest in the following:
Firebug - the First BeBox Users' Group (the inquiries have
come from all over the world, it appears that it might
make sense to make Firebug an international parent
    organization with local chapters)
   A BeNet archive (like Aminet, e.g. ftp.wustl.edu/pub/BeNet)
A Firebug Web Site (have had interested ISPs contact me
    about a possible donated site)

With this much interest and offers of assistance, I don't think
it's premature to discuss the structure of an Internet newsgroup.
