Or you pay $20 for "Name It!" or several other programs which give
your old 16-bit apps long filenames.

And the long file names don't get "trashed"- certainly, if you use a
DOS disk de-fragmenter on your Win95 hard disk you'll have problems.
So you use the one that comes with 95.  If you application can only
work with short filenames, you can get a program like I mentioned
which solves this, or continue to work in short filenames- you see the
8.3 "squished" version of the long filenames in the dialogue box.
