Connectix RamDoubler first tries to use RAM pages that are allocated to other processes but not in use. It uses these pages without any backing store. When they're gone, it will try and compress some pages (least recently used?) into some ram it allocates for that purpose. Decompressing a compressed page in RAM is faster than hitting the disk. When there is no more room in the compressed RAM cache, then RamDoubler finally resorts to swapping pages to disk. Chris -- Speaking only for myself, of course.
