That's not really a very fair comparison, in my opinion.
If you want to use the "Print" menu option on a Mac, you're probably
using an application, (word processor, graphics package, editor), and
want to print the working document right? To be fair, you'd probably
be in the same situation on a Unix system. If you're using an app, and
want to print something, there's a print option in the "File" menu, if
you're running a program with a GUI.
You're not limited to printing from the command line, although you
could. How do you print on a Mac, outside of an application? You have
to at least have some sort of finder to list the file, and then drag it
to the printer icon, right? I'm assuming that people who have printers
have a printer icon they can drag things to, although I don't use macs,
so I could be wrong.
Finding and dragging the file to the printer icon is the GUI equivalent to
the unix "lpr" command line option. Printing from a menu bar option is
the same in both unix and Mac environments. It's up to the app to take
care of providing that option.
