Recent user-based tests by PC World came up with a very different ordering: 1) Mac 7.5 2) Windows 95 3) OS/2 Warp 4) Windows NT Basis of test was a group of experienced small computer users with a background on one particular machine. The users were then required to setup and install a machine using each OS, with the exception of whichever they regularly used. After machine was up, they had s/w to install, and a set of tasks to complete. Wanted to avoid the "This is great and easy because I use it all the time." phenomenon. The gap between the Mac & Windows 95 wasn't great, but was there. The only reason NT came in last was the clunky 3.1 type interface; no one seems to have liked it. Of the tested OS's, the _ONLY_ one that none of the users managed to crash running mainline applications was NT. Good thing they didn't give them Linux, too. Installation might have been ok on the PC's, not yet quite here on the Mac. Setting up & getting tasks completed for non-unix types would have probably been humorous. 8^) -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- | Rick Forrister | Hobby: Collecting, Preserving & | | <rickf@glacier.jpl.nasa.gov | Distributing Linux printcaps. | -------------------------------------------------------------------
