Ask Linus what he is paid to work on at the university.
His "job" is to work on linux, at least he says hsi title is whatever,
but everyone at the university knows that means make linux really nice
and get plenty of exposure for us.

: Linux was implemented from scratch. Otherwise it couldn't be put under
: the GPL. For example, during the early days its networking was rather
: flakey, because the BSD implementation couldn't be used.

Boy your green.
Linux can use any BSD code he wished. The BSD license is like the GPL license.
just two difference:
1) In BSD, you DON'T have to release source code.
2) In BSD, you DO have to say it contains BSD code.

Linus could have used all the BSD code he wished.
He did not, because in his words "it is easier to re-implement than
to understand someone else code."
