And what do your X-terminal crashes tell about Unix? Nothing.
I was speaking of the unix user experience. As far as I'm concerned, X
smells of unix. Just like tar and TCP/IP. Of course, they all can be
ported to other platforms, even Macs.
: experience, the ratio of Mac reboots to Sun reboots is no better than two

Heh. Reboot is the lazy way out. Sometimes when I don't bother to restart
some services from scratch myself I just reboot the computer to let the
startup scripts take care of it. Maybe this is the thing you're referring
to. If a Unix machine is capable of going down gracefully, you should be
able to get it up and running and fully functional without a reboot, even
if you had to kill next to all processes and start them over.

Well, which is easier: a real reboot or a manual, selective reboot? Which
requires an extremely sophisticated user? For that matter, I would bet
that a sophisticated Mac programmer could selectively restart errant
processes from MacsBug.
Again, unix is certainly better than MacOs in reboot frequency. But it is
by no means immortal.
