Your complaint about disk formatting is a valid one. It can be taken care
of with freeware add-ons, but the currently-shipping OS behaves as you
have stated.

Your second complaint is a tad easier to blow a hole in. The Mac has been
able to print in the background since MultiFinder (the Mac's first flavor
of multitasking) came out in, what year was it, 1753? If the Macs had been
correctly configured, that would not have been a problem, but I think the
fact that it was not configured correctly points up shortcomings in the
user, not in the computer.

No, CMT ain't PMT, and I'd eventually like to see PMT in the MacOS, but
the Mac's CMT works pretty well; I've got eight apps running right now,
and this puppy's been up for a couple of days nonstop. I'll be happy to
have PMT when it's ready for prime time on the MacOS. Until then, the
differences just aren't compelling enough, for me, to throw out what has
been in my experience a stable and robust CMT implementation.

This feverish real-OSes-have-PMT business reminds me of the stretch when
the Mac was pilloried for failing to support parity RAM. Now, I don't give
a rat's ass about parity RAM and never will, and I do care about PMT, but
I doubt very much that it'll make very much difference in my real (as in,
unimagined) computer experience when it comes to the MacOS.

BTW, I was in British Columbia a couple of years ago. My wife and I
tent-camped our way to Vancouver. Really the most impressive landscape
I've ever traversed.
