Hmmm. One of my clients called me a few months back, asking me for some
help. He has a Mac server that's been in operation for a couple of years,
and he wanted to know if it was okay to shut it down to change out the UPS
(which was a few years old- he wanted to swap batteries).

It was an old Mac II that had been running- uninterrupted and quietly
sitting in a closet- since early 1992. No shutdowns, no crashes.

They "lost" it once, when someone stored some paper in the closet and
covered up the shelf it sat on. They had to follow the network cables
through the wall to figure out where it was.
