Huh? Why do you not have to memorize the location of every file
and dir on your Mac? Are we talking system files or your own
personal files and apps? If you're talking about system files
then you're right to a certain extent. For personal files, you'll
still be clicking looking for the files just like cd'ing with
a command line. If you're going to use a GUI for file finding
then I can use a text mode find command. I *do* have all my
directories memorized, but that's because I create them in a logical
way and go to them all the time. That doesn't mean that I can't
use find and find my file just as fast as with a GUI find or
clicking around looking for it.

What are you trying to say? Do I have both a /pub/bin/sim *and*
a /pub/bin/Simulators? I use tcsh with the autolist variable
set and with bindkey -v. This means I type "cd /pub/bin<tab>"
and then it lists all subdirs from bin. There is no guessing
dirs because it shows them to me. I can type "cd /pub/bin/s<tab>"
and it will only list subdirs from bin starting with s. Get the
idea? If I have a long command line and need to change something
at the beginning I just hit 0 and go the beginning of the line
because bindkey -v gives me vi keybindings on the command line.
If I need to insert something in the middle of that long dir
string I hit w and advance a word/dir at a time, or 3w and go
forward 3 words.

You're right. I'm productive with tcsh+set autolist+bindkey -v
I'm not with a GUI file mangler.
