The core OSs seem to be functionally equivalent, the same sort of software technology. They merely have different programmer interfaces and different application bases. Besides, both are alien and hostile environments to MacOS users. :-) : ... despite Bill Gates' : assertion that windows nt is a "better Unix than Unix". Could you provide a reference for this statement? I have had WinNT since its early Beta days and I just don't remember anyone claiming a UNIX programmers interface or an X user interface. All I can recall are a few POSIX commands. : The Free Unices, e.g. Linux, FreeBSD, etc (BTW the "free" refers : to freedom, not pricing) are the ones that are user driven. : Linux development is being guided on a daily basis by the input : of the talented Linux community - in other words, it is an OS which : is of the users, by the users, and for the users. A more accurate statement would be of the PROGRAMMERS, by the PROGRAMMERS, and for the PROGRAMMERS. And there is nothing wrong with this. Linux is a godsend for the computer science student, but that is not a typical user. By the way, a web-site administrator is not a typical user either. :-) : Windows nt is essentially a marketing campaign by one of the wealthiest : corporations on earth. It's only a marketting campaign, damn, I would have sworn it was one of the OSs that my home and work machines can boot. For what it's worth, linux is another one of my boot options.
