If you already had things organized well then you wouldn't have problems with a GUI, because you'd know where things are (or where to look). So if you are having probs. with a GUI, then either you are untrained at it, or you are not as organized as you think you are. > >Yes & No. If the Mac does NOT have the App that created it, it pops up a > >list of Apps that CAN read that doc type (through automatic translators). > >You chose. > > > >You can also set it up to AUTOMATICALLY open a particular type to a > >particular app, and do the translation automatically. > > I know that but what I want to do is this. Remember, I have all of the programs. Like I said, you can set an alias of those apps in a "graphics" folder, or on the desktop, or in a docking program, etc.... and then you just drag the files onto the app you want them to be opened in. Much faster than typing their names. But note - MOST people do NOT need to work that way. Most people chose A program that they want to use for a file type, and thats it. Or at least most people will chose a DEFAULT for a type - and use that 95% of the time. (And only have to drag&drop a few% of the time). > Yes, I could do that to with the Looking Glass desktop in Caldera, but > I don't like drag and drop myself and try to keep my screen as free > of clutter as possible. Some allow you to drag&drop onto a menu (either the apple or an applications menu). Some utilities allow you to keep as many palletes up as you want, or have pallettes of apps popup based on a shortcut key. Other people (me) have one small pallette on the bottom (small icons) that have a subject below for the whole pallette - like the little tab keys, I drag a file onto the apps tab, and then the app I want.... or onto the utilities tab, and then on the choice in there that I want. There are MANY ways to work - in fact arguably a lot more than a CLI. Remember, on the Mac you CAN use the CLI... just most people do not. -- David K.
