Sounds more like a service contract, not a warranty. Eight months after a
purchase, I moved some memory from a caching disk controller to main
memory. Problems were detected during diagnostics. At the next swapmeet
(they occurr here every 3 to 5 weeks, I could have driven to the vendor's
store but I was in no hurry) I handed my SIMMs and old receipt to the
vendor and before I said anything the vendor told me that this
manufacturer had problems and he will replace the SIMMs. Swap meet does
not necessarily mean no warranty or service.

Like I said originally, If you are willing to buy and install yourself you
can spend $500 rather than $1000. I have nothing against paying for
on-site service, but the original post left me with the impression the
$1000 was for RAM, not RAM + service contract.
