I disagree with the both of you. I know, from experience, that a P5-100+ under Linux will outrun a Sparc-20 66/SunOS, and keep up with RS-6000/AIX boxes fairly well. I have read the P6-200 is in the class of the Ultra Sparc. You can plunk 128Mbytes of memory in the things. You can have 10Gbytes of disk storage if you want. Most of the key components, such as HD & memory, are the same as those used in high end workstations. All I see in a high end workstation is better packaging, for a LOT more money. Buy 3 PCs for the cost of one workstation, and just throw the PC away when it breaks, you'd still be ahead. > >I'd be glad to compete with any NT user using my OS/2 and UNIX >systems. I'll take Linux in favor of NT and OS/2, thanks. I have even heard there are real-time Linux kernel hacks floating around. Maybe you don't want to control the space shuttle with it...yet..., but I find it a great OS for development, simulation, and general workstation use. > >-- Dr. Joseph C.
