Unix isn't big on GUIs though. It's a mostly CLI OS. > You're not limited to printing from the command line, although you > could. How do you print on a Mac, outside of an application? You have Easily, see below. > to at least have some sort of finder to list the file, and then drag it And on Unix you have to at least have some kind of shell to even run the computer. > to the printer icon, right? I'm assuming that people who have printers > have a printer icon they can drag things to, although I don't use macs, > so I could be wrong. Actually the Finder (analagous to a Unix shell) has a "Print" item in its File menu. It automatically launches the program associated with the file and presents the dialog box where you can choose the number of pages, color/grayscale/b&w, page size, etc. Without having to run the app. The printer icon works similarly. Also I said "sit a new user in front of a computer." Usually when people sit down in front of a computer they're in the finder for Macs or at the command line for Unix, not already in an application. -- Hotel California, secure in his knowlege that Macs are good and MS is bad. hotelca@cris.com
