Yeah, I understand that. But it was already a big break from previous
systems and the time that Apple was admitting that their computers might
act as more than just 'toasters'. If not exactly at that time, then soon
after. Apple was moving away from the 1 user, 1 program environment but
not really willing to give up the position. I won't say that they screwed
up, not knowing even a tiny fraction of all that took place at Apple
through that period, but in hindsight - knowing that they would eventually
make this move (which they surely did not know for sure) that would seem
to have been the best time to do it.
