: : I am getting tired of this argument. When a Mac crashes and someone : : says, "you didn't set it up properly," a Unix advocate usually appears to say, : : "But the whole OS shouldn't crash just because the user made a mistake and put : : a bad extension in." : : How, then, can it be valid for the Unix advocates to turn around and blame : : Unix crashes on poor administration??? When does UNIX crash? I have _never_ had an unrecoverable problem with linux. Occasionally the MSDOS emulator buggers up & takes the keyboard & display with it, but i've always been able to kill the process & start up a new getty on the console (via telnet or com2). The only way that i've seen to kill a UNIX system is to batter the hell out of it by consuming all the RAM/HDD space or starting up hundreds of processes and there is very little any OS could do to stop that (unless it has been properly administrated :-)). -- ______________________________________________________________ |Linux the FREE OS that has a Performance/Price ratio that is | |INFINITELY higher than anything sold by Micro$oft! | | | | http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/linux.html | |______________________________________________________________| NOTE:-This is my Opinion and not necessarily the opinion of ANYONE else, especially not my employer!
