Gee, now I know where Bork got his progressive views on privacy.  As Microsoft
has the nasty habit of taking code that does not belong to it, the desire to
keep it out of one's filesystem is quite understandable.  Microsoft's denial
of the nature of the online registration probe is a lie.  If you hook an
RS-232 sniffer between the serial port and the modem you can watch the listing
being sent.  Since the Justice Department has rolled over at every opportunity
it has had to control Microsoft, I doubt protesting Microsoft's actions would
be productive.  As someone else mentioned, since it provides a vague "OK?"
dialog before the probe, Microsoft's lawyers could keep any such case in court
long enough to exhaust the economic resources of any plaintiff.
