: Actually you're completely clueless and haven't understood _anything_
: of the design philosophy of XFree86. If it were to provide the same
: functionality as Windows, it wouldn't have needed any configuration files
: at all. But it was designed with a different goal in mind and for a
: different audience. Guys like you should stick to Windows; XFree86 is
: _not_ for them. It's as simple as this.
I've always loved the flexibility offered by MsWIN video drivers.
I can choose between 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, or, maybe, 1280x1024.
And at each resolution I get to choose between one (count them, one!)
set of dot clocks and timings. Never mind that when I adjust my monitor
so that 1024x768 is displayed on the screen, 800x600 stretches way off
the top and bottom. I can get a better monitor that allows for stored
per-resolution settings. (Of course, a little more flexibility in the
software configuration would eliminate the need for this, but it's so
much more economical to build the adjustment into the monitor.)
For those unable to grasp the concept of irony, I, on my current
hardware, prefer an X display in 1160x870. If you don't know why,
never mind, there's no point.

Nearly every electrical engineer believes deep in his heart that he
is a better at writing computer programs than any computer programmer,
and can show as proof the fact that he has written a number of small
applications, each of which was done quickly, easily, and exactly met
his needs.
