Maybe I'm not in a good position to talk about "most" users, since I'm
pretty well-surrounded by competent people, but most of the people that
I know could do what he described without really thinking about it. The
two-second time frame sounds about right.. Unless there's a kernel re-
compiling in the background or something and the disk search takes a few
seconds by itself.

One of the reasons that GUIs infuriate me is because it takes so much
longer to move the mouse around and click on things, and I have to take
my eyes off what I'm working on to co-ordinate the mouse with the GUI.
When I'm using my computer, I want the interface between my mind and
the system to be seamless -- I think it, and bang my fingers type it
and it happens, no need to glance away from the information I'm working
with. Using a GUI is like having to look at your car's gas pedal or
gear shift every time you use it.
