: Conceivably. I don't know if anyone's actually done it to this purpose,
: but it's possible to reprogram the bitmaps of ASCII characters 128..255
: on the PC from software. I don't see why they couldn't be made to appear
: as Sanskrit or Chinese characters.
128 Characters are not enough for some languages!
: The trick in doing with it what you describe (ie, posting to other
: newsgroups in other cultures' native language) is twofold: (1) the
: recieving parties have to use a reader which has remapped the GSB-set
: characters appropriately, and (2) the news server has to permit
: posts which contain GSB-set characters. The former is doable, but
: the latter may pose a more serious problem, since information known
: ahead of time to be textual is often transmitted between nodes as
: a 7-bit data stream.
The latter is no problem, because news is defined 8-bit-clean! Don't
know the rfc-nbr..
And why just remapping characters 128-256? you could remap all of
them, if you'd like, as long as cond. 1 is met (but you are
having this problem with chars 128-256 too!). For more information
hav a look at MIME!
