The fact that Linux is not the product of a corporation with millions of
dollars and hundreds of full time employees is one reason why device
driver development tends to lag behind that for Microsoft or IBM's products,
as is the fact that the required technical information for some hardware
products is covered by exclusive agreements with Microsoft (which is one
reason why OS/2's list is also shorter than Microsoft's).  The lack of full
time employees also contributes to the lack of GUI interfaces to various
tasks.  *nix without X is like MS-DOS without Windows, functional but not as
pretty.
