Apple Invented Quicktime. Period.

:Yes, IMO. You couldn't tell by the stunningly precise adjective
:("fluff") the it was opinion?

I'll admit I'm not too excited about quicktime.

:] Well, you said the word yourself: clones [of existing tehnology].

Apple did not clone it. They bought the (desktop?) rights to produce
anything they saw relating to GUI at PARC (via stock options). They them
proceeded to *make it work well*. They did not invent it -- but they did
make significant useability improvements to a good idea. PARC and
Macintosh are different, but related, beasties.

: Apple did not invent memory protection in Copeland. They cloned it.

: Apple did not invent cooperative multitasking in Multifinder. They

Agreed they did not invented these items. Unsure about the phrase
"cloned" -- it implies a kine-by-line copying, which is just about the
farthest thing from what Apple does. Apple does not invent everything, by
any means -- but they do do something more earth-shattering:

They make new technology work for ordinary people.

Now that's a big deal.
