As somone who WORKS for Apple in the QuickTime team, I can tell you
without fear of contradiction that this is complete crap.
Quicktime was developed internally at Apple. Go look at the patenst filed
by Apple regarding the architecture.
Because QT is an extensible architecture, it is capable of incorporating
code/algorithms from a variety of sources. The most significant external
algorithm in QT is the VQ-based Cinepak compression scheme which was
developed jointly by Apple and SuperMac, now part of Radius. The Cinepak
algorithm has been licensed BY Apple to a number of people including SGI.

Let me just say, as commentary, that saying something as incredibly
stupid as the above statement about QT coming from SGI reveals
1) The poster hasn't a clue about the gestalt of what QT actually is, and
likewise probably no clue about other parts of the MacOS as a
whole---what they actually are and provide users/developers.
2) The poster, having taken so little time to verify the facts in this
situation, has probably taken as little time to verify the facts in any
other situation.

For a while I found Terry Lambert's comments on commercial UNIX vs Linux,
a field about which I know little, to be interesting. Now that he reveals
himself as an ignorant bigot, all I can do is sump him in my kill file.
