Most of them (except disk utils e.g.) will run under NT 3.51 without modification. In fact, MS lists being able to run under NT as one of their Win95 logo requirements... This will not make IBM's life easier. If they decide to support Win32, then various software developers will ask themselves: "Why make native OS/2 apps?" If IBM decides *not* to support Win32, then the users will eventually ask themselves: "Why not use Win95 or NT?" =\ *=- R.Moberg, author of CD-Player Pro! ftp.cica.indiana.edu: =/ /win3/sounds/cdppro45.zip

Which is why Win'95 is merely a transitional OS. No doubt MS will port
all the features to NT and eventually dump Win'95 and the 16-bit handicap
once and for all. By that time people won't be screaming about having to
have 16 megs of ram and the P6(7,8...) will be able to operate at full speed.
Apple has the perfect opportunity to be up and running native RISC
Copland/Gershwin by then. Hopefully before then.
Unless they decide to expend their resources on Pippin and Newton instead :>

Pippin has excited every computer salesman that I've described it to.
Newton is STILL the most popular PDA on the market, with several 3rd
party licensees

I love the idea of both, and do own a Newton (I bought used from somebody
else who gave up on it...) But the Newton was ballyhooed at a time when
the Mac itself was proving a flaccid performance competitor to the
Windows PC. And Pippin is being touted as a game machine, using the Mac
OS which has been accused as being a toy... I'll probably buy one, but I
do hope that Apple's priorities don't cost the main concerns of the company.
On a related note, it's the same Pippin mentality that seems to be
pushing Kaleida's ScriptX as a game creation environment rather than a
powerful application language, which it truly seems to be.
Anyway, blah...

And Pippin is being touted as a game machine, using the Mac The Newton was marketed wrong. Apple was trying to sell it as a yuppie toy - sort of an electronic rolodex/dayrunner replacement. Instead, the Newton is a powerful tool for vertical market applications in locations where even a laptop computer is impractical. With bar code readers and other devices, the Newton is one of the best data collection tools available (with the proper software ;-). -- Mike Cohen - isis@netcom.com Home Page: ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/is/isis/home.html PUSH THE BUTTON... But I have never seen the Pippin. Is it Vapor Hardware? When does it come out? what is ScriptX? I have never seen it. Please reply to: hhelsley@lausd.k12.ca.us
