Does InterSLIP work on PowerPC ??

Hi all,
I'm trying to get a SLIP connection running on my PPC 6100/AV.
I'm using InterSLIP and some other high level stuff (NCSA Telnet, Mosaic etc).
I've written a script to login to my server, but it doesn't seem to work.

The script runs all the way through and the modem seems to connect, but then
about 30secs later it drops the connection. InterSLIP says that it is still
connected and sometimes then the whole machine hangs irretrievably (ie. I have
macsbug installed, but it doesn't work at this point - neither does the
interrupt swith on the back).

Another thing that may be a problem is my LineLink 14400 modem ?

Can anyone help me ??

Cheers, Nick.

I forgot the login script and just do it manually. I then set Interslip for
a direct connect gate way script.

I had inteslip waist my whole system the first time I installed it. It trashed
the file system so bad My external HD wouldn't even automaout. It killed my
P-ram and destoyed my OS. I had to install my od from scratch. Then I ran
nortan disk doctor and it found over 100 problems. Not a week later, I
omptimized and ran DD on my HD's. I think the problem was Virtual Memory.
I did not turn it back on, and it has been ok since.

No it isn't your modem, I have one and it works fine

Email me with your system configuration, Maybe I can find something else that
might be conflicting. But definitly make sure your VM is OFF.

That's odd. I did not have a whole lot of trouble getting InterSLIP to
work on my 6100/60. I do find that MacPPP is in general a much more
reliable way to connect, however. I was never able to write a script for
InterSLIP that worked reliably, but since my provider has PPP as well I
changed to MacPPP.

It may be an excentricity of InterSLIP that you have found, or perhaps
your script is bad? Anyway, you can connect with it successfully.

You might check to see that your modem cable has the "hardware handshake"
wires connected. Some modems will do the offline stuff ("ATDT etc")
without clear to send but start believing when they go on-line. If you
do not have a hardware handshake cable, and have CTS/DTR handshaking
turned on, and the modem believes that an open wire is "don't go", then
you can get this freeze when you first try to go online.

Maybe it's time to post my Serial Port document again...

I'm using InterSLIP on a powermac 7100av connected to TIA. Things seem
to work for a while, but it crashes VERY frequently; once in ten
minutes or so! I've therefore abandoned it.

I've been using InterSLIP on a 6100 for 3 months now. I have had some problems,
mostly with telnet and ftp, but I believe now the the fault was at the
other end. The system I connect recently upgraded to Solaris and there
were some problems with the packet sizes the new OS could handle.
Apparently, they fixed that and now all is better. Overall, the
InterSLIP has been fine. In any case, the problem was never with crashes,
more just a loss of connection.
