We are running Dynix/ptx 1.3.0 in an academic environment. None of our Computing courses feature a language as the main feature of the course, but several of them require that the student learn a specific language (like Pascal or Fortran in first year). We are using Sequent-supplied compilers for both of these languages. Our Computing instructors are finding that they are spending too much class and lab time explaining the use of the standard debugging tools (like pdbx), and most students (especially in first year) find it nearly impossible to work it out on their own. Is anyone aware of more intuitive debuggers that would be more suitable? I would also be interested in hearing of programming environment packages, where a compiler/editting facility/debugger where rolled into one package. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
