Shared memory/ucb universe on Sequent

I have a program which uses shared memory which I would like to get running
on a Sequent Balance running 3.0.14. The SVAE has shared memory, but doesn't
have a lot of BSD routines which are also needed, which can be found in the
ucb universe. I've tried linking to both C libraries, but the executable
spews out a few lines of "Bad option on line 15" and then toms of garbage.
Is there any way to get both to work?
