Unfortunately the S81 does not support SCSI drives. I believe however,
that there might be a cabinet upgrade available from Sequent.

We've hooked a SCSI disk to our S81. I believe it's a Fujitsu
M2263S. Nothing pretty, it sits on top of the cabinet. Still it works
(despite our bizarre cabling).

I've been asked for more information about hooking up a SCSI drive to
an S81. This is from memory and is sketchy, so beware...

The QIC tape drive on the S81 is on a SCSI bus. We connected our
drive to that bus.

Before formating the drive we had to modify the kernal. We allowed an
additional SCSI device (by uncommenting

device sd0 at sec? req 4 doneq 4 bin 5 unit ? target ?

in the machine description file) and probably running MAKEDEV.

Further, our drive (a Fujitsu M2263S, appox. 760MB) was larger than
the max allowed size for a SCSI drive in our kernal so we had to
change the parameter SD_END in /usr/sys/sec/sd.h. (we bumped it from
1400000 to 14000000).

To format the drive we used some combination of the sdformat command
and the format command. That sdformat command required rebooting the
machine and runnning from the monitor. The format command could be
run in muli-user mode. Just now looking at the format command I
can't even remember what all the options mean. I do remember us
running it many times trying to get parameters right.

Sorry its not a cookbook, but I hope its helpful.

I have a Maxtor LXT200S on the SCED scsi bus of a s27 running PTX.
This is a 3.5" SCSI-2 device on a SCSI-1 bus.
The drive is available through the 'p' engineering partition only.
While the OS does not seem to use any Volume Table Of Contents (VTOC)
information I put on the drive, I can still use all 200 Mb as a single
filesystem.

Anyone know why I can't put a VTOC on this drive?
