Has anyone done any work with RPC on a Sequent symmetry running Dynix
3.*. I cannot find a version of rpcgen which works on the Sequent.
I am having to build the files by hand which shouldn't be impossibly
hard however, I have am completely stumped with what should be quite a
simple problem in fact a whole group of them. I want to send some data
between a client and a server using RPC. I can do this for integers or
strings even arrays of strings but now I need to send a structure. I don't
care how it is done though. The format of the structure doesn't matter
but lets say it is:
struct klist {
char *name;
int type;
};
struct dinfo {
char *name;
int nkeys;
struct klist **keys;
}
I have tried this as many ways as I can think and it just doesn't work.
I have followed it on both the server side and the client side using gdb.
The code I wrote appears to work ok on the server side and it also appears
to work on the client side until it finally returns to the main code of the
client program, then for no apparent reason, all the nice addresses which I
watched being filled are suddenly not available anymore and I get segmentation
faults Obviously I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what. The
short paper I have on RPC from the UNIX programmers manual has several
mistakes in the simple examples so I suppose the complex examples may also
have mistakes.
Does anyone have a piece of example code which sends a data structure
similar to this, or even better a linked list. The array in the example
above is only there because I gave up on linked lists fairly early on. I
suspect that rpcgen would generate all this sort of thing for me but I
can't get any version of that to run on a Sequent so if anyone has
managed to get rpcgen to go on a Sequent I would love to know how.
Thanks for any help....
