We are running two Sequent machines - an S27 (Dynix 3.0.17.9) and a B21000 (Dynix 3.0.4) [this box is on long-term loan to us]. The S27 is our main mail server and print server for historical reasons. The B21000 is used primarily for instructional purposes. Our campus recently installed a Sun 4/490 server which also provides us with a name-server. We would like to like to use this Sun for name resolution and add SMTP transport for our mail. Now comes the tricky part. We see this as a 2 part problem - get the name resolver working and then tackle sendmail. We got the name services working on all of our Sun's, went to the S27, proceeded to add the proper files (defaultrouter and resolv.conf) and everything worked fine - except that the B21000 no longer 'sees' the S27. Nada. We cannot telnet between the two boxes, we cannot 'ping' from one to the other (they are in the same room and are adjacent nodes on our ethernet). Worse, the B21000 can no longer spool print jobs over to the printers on the S27. Ouch! Needless to say, we backed off for now. Anyone have any suggestions on how we can fix this quandry? We need for the two boxes to communicate, but we really, really, really want to add SMTP transport. I would very much appreciate any suggestions. +-----------------------+-------------------------------------+ | Richard M.
