Hello SGI users:
I posted the joking claim that the details of SGI's image format
is a closely guarded secret. No sooner had I flamed to this effect,
when several SGI people and a couple of customers, acting independently
and not in concert, hastened to tell me about
/usr/include/gl/image.h
which essentially describes the image file format. This,
together with imgtools in 4Dgifts allows one to write a
program that examines an image file, with a view to
understanding what is being displayed or improving the
aesthetic quality or whatever we want to do.
I am sorry to have hurt the SGI people's feelings and regret any
transient effect this may have had on SGI's image.
